Alcatel One Touch Glory 918N , Dual-Sim and Android 2.3 budget phone

Alcatel One Touch recently release their first dual-sim Android phone, the Glory 918N. It was introduced on the “Fashion meets Tech Press Launch” held on January 10, 2012 at Relik Tapas Bar and Lounge in the Fort. Alcatel One Touch Glory 918N is the company’s entry-level smartphone running an Android OS version 2.3 Gingerbread, packed with 3.0-megapixel camera and 3.2-inch touchscreen. Those main phone features and its dual-sim capability for very affordable price of P5,699.

Its 3.0-megapixel camera without flash is acceptable as a budget phone, camera features Panoramic mode, white balance and colour effect settings, digital zoom and can capture video at 30frame/s. In terms of style, design is pretty good to me especially the color white with metallic gray for physical buttons like power and volume control.

What I like the most is the 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen that features 480 x 320 resolution. It provides high pixel density for image and video viewing that makes the display stand out, better than 3.2-inch display of LG Optimus L3 which only has 320 x 240 resolution. Unboxing video shows its reponsive touchscreen, quick apps loading and fast internet browsing.

Aside from pre-embedded apps, there are lots of optional apps can be installed and categorized them to make your apps more organized. Other important concern of smartphone user is, if the phone can run popular games. There are popular games like Angry Birds and some tower defense games doesn’t need high processor or GPU but Temple Run and other HD 3D game won’t work due to hardware specs. Its built-in G-sensor enhances your game experience and make your phone an instant game controller.

I also like its battery performance that promise a up to 10 hours of talk time and up to 400 hours of stand-by time. If you want to make your battery last longer, there are ways to save power. You can adjust the screen brightness that consume the higher percentage of your battery life, disable data and killing tasks which allows you to stop the running apps by force, it will save your battery and avoid screen freezing or lag as well.

  1. Its price makes me wary about its quality.

HAHAHA hello Henry! I’m actually thinking of buying a new (and cheap) smartphone since my previous mobile got broken. It will be my first smartphone since I mostly just call and text and therefore doesn’t see any need for it but friends insist that I’ll need a smartphone once I’m working.

I’m thinking of either Blackberry curve 8520 or HTC explorer or Samsung Galaxy mini 2? Do you have any personal thoughts on these brands? HAHAHA thanks!

    • BB 8520: display has low pixel density, low camera megapixel without flash, low OS version, low processor and low battery life. 😀
HTC explorer: wide screen display with high pixel density, better camera but no flash, better Wi-Fi and high speed bluetooth, running Android 2.3 gingerbread, low processor but acceptable battery life. :-)
Suggest ko buy mo Xperia mini ST15i like my phone pero medyo mahal mga nasa P8,400.

      • Sa totoo lang, di ko pa din magets ang basics ng smartphone pero what you’re suggesting is within my budget naman. I’ll look into it though I want to ask, what makes you suggest it?

        Thank you!

        • Ay sory hndi ko nalagay advantages, haha.
Xperia mini ST15i: multi-touch screen with high pixel density better than explorer, display features BRAVIA Engine for Reality Display (favorite feature), XLOUD sound enhancement, 1GHz processor and 512 RAM for fast browsing ang multi-tasking, Android v2.3 can be upgrade to v4.0 ICS. Can capture excellent image quality with 5-MP camera, HD video recording and acceptable battery life.

          • HAHAHAHA if I don’t read your blog, I’d think you’re from Sony Ericsson but yeah, you basically sold it na! Thanks!

  2. Hello Sir VanKaizer, Alcatel One Touch Glory 918N really looks good for me! The design is very simple and stylish looking :) One good thing about this phone is the dual sim capability! You will no longer removed the battery and changed your sim hehe… And the price cost of it was really affordable because it’s only 5, 699 Pesos! WOW!

    Nice Post Sir VanKaizer :)

  3. Hi! I am interested in the phone since it’s one of the choices for my postpaid plan. Does it support ice cream sandwich po ba?

  4. Oh. Okay sir. Thanks. Im pretty dumb kasi sa Android :)) hahaha.
So, basically, 2.3/GB na ang best for this phone, am i right sir?

  5. I have a question. I got my phone just two days ago and the camera quality is blurry. I already set my phone’s camera quality to super fine and the outcome is still similar. And I can’t figure out how to turn the camera sound off, I mean it sets off a loud clicking sound whenever I take a snapshot. It’s a very nice phone overall, but I’m really disappointed in the camera features and also the way its battery life drains too fast. Any ideas how I can fix this problem?

          • ung glory 918 = 3.0 mp, updated version glory x 918 kaya 3.2mp na ung cam.

main concern: parang wla setting ung camera sound kahit silent mode bale wala.

  7. Please inform me as well pag alam nyo na po i-off ung sound ng camera kc khit nakaheadset disturbing parin…So inconvenient kapag ginagamit ung alcatel Glory…Thanks..

  8. Hello there! I simply would like to give you a big thumbs up for
the excellent information you have got right here on this post.
I will be returning to your blog for more soon.

  9. Okay na sana itong Glory 918N, kaso sa lahat naman ng naging phone ko ito na yata ang may pinaka iskadalosong sounds ng camera, di man lang maioff, ang bilis pa mag lowbat! for 30 mins na wi-fi at 45 mins call…wala man lang bang way para kahit yung sounds nung cam maioff/silent?(thru apps.)

  10. Main Concern: Paano i-off ang camera sound.

HTC explorer o Alcatel 918n.. tnx

  11. I have a brand new Alcatel one touch 918N. I like the phone in all its features but, the only problem I don’t like with the phone is the sound it makes when taking a picture.
